Active Tilting Systems / 主動傾斜系統High-speed trains utilizing active tilting systems are some of the most advanced means of transportation in the world. An active tilting system improves the running speeds of a train by 20-30% on curved tracks, shortening travel times and enhancing ride comfort. Tilting trains require accurate measurements of acceleration and tilt stabilization in order to ensure passenger comfort, devices that can assist in preventive maintenance and health usage monitoring and planning. Colibrys offers a range of low g MEMS accelerometers specifically designed for tilt sensing that use the Earth’s ground plate as a reference. Our MEMS capacitive accelerometers are based on a bulk micro-machined silicon element, a low power ASIC for signal conditioning and a temperature sensor.
Reliable and accurate measurements for tiltingOur MEMS capacitive sensors are renowned for their high reliability in harsh environments and have already been qualified for safety critical railway applications. Implementing one of our tilt sensors not only ensures accurate and reliable readings, but also helps greatly increase the lifespan of a train, as our products are designed to operate under harsh conditions.
The MEMS revolutionThere are many sensing technologies (capacitive, piezoresistive, etc.) competing to provide the best solution for today’s tilting sensing applications, but none offer the same level of performance in terms of long-term stability, temperature stability and precision as MEMS capacitive products, which are not only qualified for safety critical applications, but are also designed to operate in harsh environments.
Measuring tiltThe accelerometer uses the effect of Earth’s gravity (1g) on the seismic mass as input acceleration to determine inclination. The inertial mass is the center wafer, supporting the proof mass through the spring. The accelerometer’s output signal (Vout) is a ratiometric analog voltage which is determined by the sum between Bias and the product of Scale factor and Acceleration, where the Bias is the output voltage at 0g acceleration, the Scale factor is the sensor sensitivity and the Acceleration is the Earth’s pull (1g) applied through the sensitive axis.
Advantages of our tilt sensorsColibrys offers MEMS accelerometers that have an inherent high resolution, high temperature stability and low power consumption, which makes them the perfect high-tech solution for effectively addressing the requirements of tilt sensing applications.
Colibrys – tilting towards innovationOur accelerometers for tilt sensing applications are among the best products out there in term of short-term and long-term stability, with less than 0.15mg for a ±1g full scale range, which means that they offer a stability above 0.0086° over one year, that is without mentioning the excellent bias temperature coefficient, low hysteresis and high repeatability. Last but not least, our product have a killer combination of noise reduction and bandwidth, determining the resolution or smallest measurable angle of the tilt sensor. Colibrys products present a low noise level (20 µg/√Hz for a ±1g sensor) and, as a result, are able to measure angles with a typical resolution of 0.0006° (RMS noise for 1Hz bandwidth).
